DLT Registration Mandatory for SMS Services in india
Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) is a block-chain based registration system. According to TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India), telemarketers have to be registered in the DLT platform.
It is being issued in the public interest to control the SMS spam from various marketing firms. Earlier the bulk SMS providers were required to register with TRAI. With the updated rules, whoever wants to send promotional or transactional SMS to their customers needs to be DLT registered.

What is DLT Registration and Why Does It Matter?
DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) is a system introduced by telecom operators to clean up the SMS ecosystem. In simple terms, it uses blockchain to make sure only verified businesses can send bulk messages. The goal is straightforward — reduce spam, prevent fraud, and make communication more trustworthy for users. In India, under TRAI guidelines, any business sending SMS (whether it’s offers, OTPs, or updates) must complete DLT registration. There’s no workaround here — it’s mandatory.
Why DLT Registration Is Important
If you’re using SMS to talk to customers, DLT isn’t optional — it directly affects whether your messages even reach them.
1. Your messages won’t get blocked
Without DLT approval, telecom operators can stop your SMS before it reaches users.
Example: A bank sending OTPs could face delivery failures if it’s not registered.
3. You stay on the right side of regulations
DLT isn’t just a best practice — it’s a legal requirement under TRAI for all business messaging.
2. Your communication looks genuine
Every message template gets approved in advance, which adds a layer of credibility.
Example: A retail brand sending “Flat 50% Off” feels more trustworthy when it’s verified.
4. You get consistent delivery
Only registered businesses are allowed to send SMS through telecom networks, which means fewer disruptions and better reach.
